A rumor from BGR today suggests RIM is preparing to bring its popular BlackBerry Messenger to iOS as well as Android. Details are sparse but the Canadian handset manufacturer reportedly wants to own the messaging space and can propel itself forward by opening its popular Messenger service to other platforms. RIM is moving quickly with the Android version, but may encounter a stumbling block with Apple's App Store approval process. Nonetheless, this rumor is quite tantalizing, especially when you feast your eyes on the above screenshot that landed in our inbox recently.

T-Mobile is ramping up for their BlackBerry Bold 9780 launch. While the date is tentative and subject to change the documentation clearly shows November 17th as the expected date. It's stil rather odd that Reseach In Motion has made no mention of the device officially with launch expected across all GSM carriers next month. Kinda makes you wonder if one day you'll just walk into your carrier and the 9700 will no longer exist and the BlackBerry Bold 9780 will just quietly show up. Still now word on the AT&T front for this release but, any T-Mobile fans excited to finally have some form of confirmation the 9780 will be arriving?

The British jeweler Stuart Hughes, who has earned a reputation for his expensive recasting of popular consumer electronics items, is at it again, this time dolling up an iPhone with 500 "flawless" diamonds and more than enough gold to appeal to the Midas in every one of us.
"This one only took 2 months to plan," Hughes wrote in an email to CBSNews.com. "We (had) earlier done the 3GS Supreme (which was offered for 1.92 million pounds) so we had the [know-how] really to pull the iPhone 4 off."
Here's how Hughes describes the product on his website:
"The world's most expensive phone with a total construction cost of ?5 million. The bezel is handmade from rose with approx 500 individual flawless diamonds which total over 100ct.The rear section is formed using rose gold with the added touch of its rose gold Apple logo and 53 diamonds. The main navigation is made from platinum which holds a single cut 7.4ct pink diamond. Also included (not shown in picture) is a rare 8ct single cut Flawless diamond which can replace the pink one. The chest which houses this unique handset is made from a single block of Granite , in Imperial Pink with the inner lined with Nubuck top grain leather , which weight is a massive 7kg.The handset is 32gb and limited edition of only 2 to be ever made."
Now, how could you resist? Of course, there is the minor matter of price. The product lists for 5 million pounds, or roughly $8 million, depending on the current exchange rate. As the wags at the tech blog Mashable note, "only two of these will ever be made, so don't worry: if you buy one, the chances of bumping into someone who has the exact same phone at a party are quite slim."
Of course, just why anyone of sane mind would shell out this much money for a tech toy - diamonds and gold fetishes notwithstanding - remains a mystery.

Apple's AT&T monogamy has officially ended, at least as far as the iPad is concerned. Because at the end of this month, the tablet is coming to Verizon. Well, Wi-Fi anyway.
Verizon's iPad appears to be the same Wi-Fi model that AT&T carries, which means that for 3G access you'll have to purchase a bundle with a Verizon MiFi mobile hotspot. That MiFi gives you a roundabout route to Verizon's 3G network, since theVerizon iPad apparently isn't CDMA. Which is disappointing!
Pricing is understandably competitive: an 16GB Wi-Fi iPad bundled with MiFi will cost $630, 32GB Wi-Fi iPad + MiFi will be $730, and 64GB Wi-Fi iPad plus MiFi will be $830. The MiFi data plan will apparently offer up to 1GB of data for $20/month, no contract required.
Wi-Fi only models will also be sold, and while pricing for those hasn't been announced yet it's hard to imagine that it'd be appreciably different from AT&T's offering. There's no mention in the release of if or when you can preorder, although you can "sign up for more information" here
